There has never been a struggle between good and evil. Since humans have lived in societies that are too complex for their abilities, life and greed, personal freedom and political power have always been in conflict.
No human, whatever his qualifications, can be for nuclear unless he is against life itself.
Twenty-six centuries ago, the statesman Solon laid the foundations of democracy in order to protect the Athenians from that era’s prevailing greed. In the 21st century, vengeful greed has reared its head anew and it has succeeded in preventing modern-day Greece from taking action once again.
Greed and technology are both exponential in nature, and as they are fueled by the military-industrial complex, they lash out at everything that lives and breathes.
The global automobile (in reality a high value “Demolition Derby”) is the cause of 1.2 million deaths per year around the world. Hundreds of thousands of people are widowed, orphaned and injured. Millions become sick and die because of pollution. This claims more lives than the wars that continue to rage on. Every five years, the number of deaths is equal to those who fell victim to the Final Solution.
In order to live, breathe, love, run, till the earth and feed itself, the human organism needs a few hundred calories per day. This type of biological economy has worked harmoniously for millions of years.
When we use it to meet our vital needs – which haven’t really changed, since we must still live, breathe, love, run, till the earth and feed ourselves – even the smallest motor vehicle consumes at least 150 times more energy than it would be natural for it to use.
And yet, despite the deaths, despite the collapse of the cradle of life, despite all the economic, material and biological collapses produced by this, greed, which the automobile serves above all, still leads the dance.
Evolution has always been the evolution of living things. The immeasurable universe creates asteroids that are nothing but sterile aggregates of stardust.
Everything that lives and evolves is of a nature that is different from inert stardust. Our planet Earth is host to the only nature we know. This nature out of which we spring only knows how to produce living beings. While the material universe is subject to degrade and grow colder, life, conversely, becomes more complex and vital. When an apple rots in the dirt, a tree grows.
Mineral substances of any shape or form are, to varying degrees, toxic for every living thing. When this toxicity is dynamic, such as in our machines that can’t help but grow exponentially, their proliferation quickly becomes unbearable for nature itself. A bomb that burrows into the ground does not become a new growth, it destroys everything that grows.
Progress can only be progress if its main objective points toward the sustenance of life, that is to say natural biological evolution. Any technology that doesn’t serve a purpose in favour of life can only destroy it. This explains why actually there can’t actually be overpopulation among living organisms. It has never existed. There is only an overpopulation of entropic machines that can’t help but destroy themselves while bringing along every living thing with them.
Six thousand years ago, man invented the dogsled, which requires no industrial infrastructure in order to be made, no financial network. It is used locally, like every natural thing. Its use is of an enjoyable and quintessentially human nature. It is made of local materials and its motors are living beings. The dogsled is a perfect model of technological innovation.
Despite this, the raging snowmobile was imposed, deadly in more sense than one, like any other industrial technology that stands in conflict with life and nature. Obviously, these inventions serve the interests of greed above all.
Albert Einstein came up with the formula E=MC2 in 1905. According to this formula, the head of a match contains as much energy as several tonnes of coal. Enough to fuel a locomotive from that era all the way around the world.
When the first nuclear bomb blew up over Hiroshima, it is said that Einstein declared that, had he known, he would have become a plumber instead. Einstein was the only thinker who truly understood nuclear energy. He evidently would not have used it in the same way that we do.
Since then, we have indiscriminately built bombs and enormous kettles that we dare to refer to as nuclear power stations. These things only serve to concentrate radioactivity before distributing it more or less violently without consuming it. The mechanical use to which we put nuclear energy’s radioactive mass is brutal. This is not any more complicated than a water tower filled with acid that accumulates gravity’s kinetic energy to feed a sprinkler.
This extreme toxicity is the very essence of our meagre understanding of nuclear energy, and since the resources required to maintain it are immeasurable, there can be no nuclear industry without a war industry.
This is another example, along with most types of cumbersome and deadly technological patchworks, of something that greed and power cannot do without.
Unfortunately, this is also a powerful political and economic agent. Millions of hours of work, intelligence, human creativity and resources that are desperately needed in order to ensure the sustenance of life on Earth and humanity have been tragically lost in order to meet the foolish objectives of avarice.
And yet all we need is for twelve men and women in positions of power, who see themselves as human, to sit at a table and sign a treaty for the rest of us, as they are already in the habit of doing, only in a rational manner this time, which prohibits the mechanical use of radioactive nuclear energy in all its forms, in order to save humanity from a death, whether slow or sudden, that would be horrific.
